Dear Minister Anderson,
In the last month there have been an increasing number of
well-publicized illegal grain movements into the United States.
These demonstrators are acting in violation of the rules and regulations
which govern the grain trade. The National Farms Union requests
that you make it clear that the action of the border demonstrators are
illegal.
At present, there is a great deal of misinformation in the
countryside. Demonstrators are claiming that their actions are
either not against the law, or that the laws are not being
enforced. As these few producers are damaging the livelihood of
all western grain farmers, we urge the federal government to be strict
in the enforcement of its export regulations.
That the majority of western Canadian grain producers support the Wheat
Board was made clear to the Wheat Board Advisory elections least
fall. These few demonstrators have lost in the democratic process,
lost in the legal process and are now attempting to subvert both.
We ask you explain the rules to all western farmers, and to enforce
the regulations governing the export of Canada Wheat Board grains.
We cannot let the actions of a few jeopardize a system that works for
all Canadian grain farmers.
Yours sincerely,
Nettie Wiebe,
President
